Song: The Junior Varsity – Everyone’s got something they’re running out of [1] If you can already read, then we can start right in with reading exercises. It is important to know how to read first because it's how we will learn new drum patters, which is especially important on the full set. Furthermore, if you wanted to learn new drum patterns on your own, you would have the necessary skills to do so. [3] This can be a very difficult jump in independence playing. To help simplify the exercises, try first playing quarter notes on the ride cymbal while playing the pattern with the left hand before playing the standard swing pattern. This will get your hands thinking separately as sort of a ‘primer’. |
